Thailand paves the way for renewables

Similar to many other growing Southeast Asian countries, Thailand is facing an increase in energy demand. According to the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), energy demand in Southeast Asia in 2040 is expected to increase between 110- to 130 percent. Meanwhile, due to Thailand’s good economic performance and population growth, energy demand is forecasted to rise by almost 80 percent in the next 20 years. At the same time, Thailand is now facing a fossil fuels crisis.

Microsoft’s clean energy powered datacentre in Singapore

Microsoft announced earlier this week that it will be buying solar power from the Sunseap Group in Singapore. The deal will be their first for renewable energy in Asia. In recent years, Microsoft has been moving towards investing in renewable energy and integrating it into their systems. In 2016, Microsoft laid out their plans to transition to clean power.

Vietnam sets the framework for solar energy development

Vietnam’s demand for energy has increased at the approximate rate of 12% per year between 2006 and 2015, according to the Vietnam Energy Outlook Report 2017 produced by Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry & Trade. Whilst its current installed capacity is only 3.876 million kWh, it will need to produce 245 billion kWh by 2020, according to analysis by the multinational law firm, Clifford Chance in 2017.

Singapore to develop solar power and storage systems

Singapore plans to develop solar power and energy-storage technologies as the oil-trading hub of Asia pushes to generate more of its power from renewable sources.The city-state is testing floating power projects in its reservoirs, a technology that could help solar meet as much as a quarter of electricity demand by 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said Monday in a speech opening Singapore International Energy Week.

China’s renewable-energy revolution
