Victim-Blaming Culture In Cambodia

Cambodian women are posting images of themselves in swimwear and skimpy outfits on social media in a move to condemn a proposed law governing the way people should dress in public.The draft legislation, said to take effect in 2021 – if approved by government ministries and the national assembly – would allow Cambodian police to fine people deemed to be dressed inappropriately.

“It’s Your Fault!” – Rape In Myanmar

“Traffickers target youths who have bad reputations or low moral character more than youths who don’t understand.” This is what Myanmar’s Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Director General U Win Naing Tun was quoted as saying recently when talking about human trafficking. Most human trafficking in Myanmar involves the selling of women as brides to China.Naing Tun’s words seem, at least at first glance, to have a tinge of victim-blaming in them.

“It’s your fault!” – Domestic abuse in Cambodia

Some Cambodians are blaming domestic abuse on the victims. At least this is what the findings from several studies suggested, including a recent joint study conducted by three NGOs (Non-governmental organisations) – Klahaan, Urban Poor Women Development, and People in Need.
