Improving lung cancer treatments

Lung cancer is the most common form of cancer with approximately 2.09 million new diagnoses every year, and is responsible for the most cancer deaths, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). Based on data compiled by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the disease killed nearly 1.8 million people in 2018, of which 61.4 percent of deaths occurred in the Asia Pacific region.

Lung cancer on the rise

Lung cancer killed nearly 1.8 million people globally in 2018, of which 61.4 percent of deaths occurred in the Asia Pacific region according to data compiled by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). The data also revealed that 59.3 percent of the world’s new lung cancer cases are also to be found in the same region. Across ASEAN member states, the Global Cancer Observatory recorded a total of 113,105 new cases of lung cancer last year.
