Investigation ongoing for Myanmar football supporters attack

Police are in the midst of investigating the attack on Myanmar football supporters, which went viral on social media yesterday, said Shah Alam district police chief ACP Shafien Mamat. Investigations and operations to detect and apprehend relevant suspects are being actively pursued by the police. The case is classified under the Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.

Hence, while investigations are being carried out, the police are asking the public who has information on the matter to alert them and not to speculate on the matter.

The Shah Alam District Police have confirmed of receiving information from the public about two men (the victims) who were injured due to being hit by some men at the parking lot of Bazarena near Shah Alam Stadium on Monday at about 11.50pm local time. They were both Myanmar football fans that was removed from the main Myanmar football fans group.

Further investigations found that both the victims, aged 29 and 34, had injuries on the face and part of their body after being punched and kicked by the suspects. The two victims were then sent to Shah Alam Hospital for further treatment. One of the victims received treatment as an outpatient while the other is still being treated at the hospital.

On Monday, an accident occurred involving two busses - carrying squash athletes and officials from their hotel to the competition venue at the Kuala Lumpur Sports City. AFP reported that it wasn’t the first transport problem at the SEA Games for Myanmar, whose women footballers were stranded when their bus drivers was arrested for stealing a player’s watch. Other incidents during the SEA Games include the Indonesian flag misprint in the official souvenir booklet, that was distributed during the event's opening ceremony on Saturday.
