The president of Indonesia, Joko Widodo has finally signed the e-commerce road map for Indonesia – which will provide guidelines for Indonesia’s digital economy sector.
The e-commerce roadmap is expected to be issued by the end of 2017. It will help regulate the technology and address related issues such as logistics, cyber securities, taxation, human resources development and consumer protection.
The Communications and Information Minister, Rudiantara meet the press after attending the e-commerce coordination meeting, that was help at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Jakarta, Indonesia. "One of the issues outlined in the road map which relates to the payment system will be addressed by implementing the National Payment Gateway (NPG). This will be under the supervision of Bank Indonesia," Rudiantara said. The NPG will provide an efficient and secure payment system for consumers.
The ministry is also designing a solution to record online transaction information that they receive from the marketplace. They are coordinating with the Ministry of Finance, Central Bureau of Statistics and Bank Indonesia for this solution. Currently, they are in the midst of a discussion with e-commerce businesses on how this information can be extracted without having to create a new system to do so.
