Jihad in Thailand’s deep south?

On 24 September, a Thai student, who has not been identified, was taken into custody by Egyptian authorities in Cairo following the circulation of an online video clip that showed him voicing support for an “Islamic revolution” in an interview. According to the Thai embassy in Cairo, photos allegedly linked to the Islamic State (IS) had also been discovered on his mobile phone.The student was a resident of Yala in Thailand’s insurgency-torn deep south.

Chinese guns for Thailand

Earlier this week, The ASEAN Post published an article citing the United Nations’ (UN) 2018 edition of the Annual Report of the Secretary-General on Children and Armed Conflict. The UN report condemned the government of the United Kingdom for arming states named and shamed where more than 12,000 children were killed or maimed last year in armed conflicts.

Two monks shot dead in Thailand

Gunmen in Thailand's deep south shot dead two Buddhist monks and wounded two others inside a temple, police said Saturday, capping a week of deadly violence as the prime minister vowed to "punish" those responsible.Black-clad assailants carrying rifles crept into Rattanaupap temple in Narathiwat province near Malaysia's border on Friday evening and started firing, local superintendent Pakdi Preechachon said.
