Flexible child care in Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia’s flourishing start-up ecosystem has led to the evolution of shared working spaces in the region, with rising demand driven by entrepreneurs, start-ups and even, corporate firms.A 2018 report by JLL, an investment management firm, indicates that flexible workspaces in Southeast Asia have shown a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 40 percent from 2015 to 2018 and now make up two percent of the total office stock.

The death of Southeast Asia’s dugongs 

The plight of the dugong has been making headlines after two baby dugongs which were found alive and washed ashore in Krabi and Trang provinces, in Thailand, died recently. The increased awareness has brought Hollywood, actor, Leonardo DiCaprio to post the story on his social media, drawing much needed attention to Thailand’s dugongs.The babies were previously taken into care and named, Marium and Yamil by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya.

Thais have a sexual harassment problem

In a recent survey of 1,107 Thais by YouGov, the United Kingdom (UK)-based market research agency found that 21 percent of respondents they interviewed said they have experienced sexual harassment.Sexual assault was the most common form of sexual harassment reported by respondents (44 percent). The second most common form of sexual harassment was verbal comments of a sexual nature (42 percent) and flashing (35 percent).

Can Singapore’s suicidal children be saved?

Slavery in Malaysia

Back in 2015, mass graves of people believed to be Rohingya who were victims of human trafficking were discovered in the jungles north of Wang Kelian in an area called Wang Berma. Wang Kelian is a village in Perlis, a state in northern Malaysia and is located on the Malaysia-Thailand Border. Reports stated that as many as 139 graves and 29 illegal detention camps were discovered during operations carried out by the Malaysian police.
