Are Cambodia’s Kids Hooked On Drugs?

Cambodia’s premier Hun Sen, launched his own anti-drugs campaign in 2017, inspired by the controversial war on drugs waged by Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. According to the Cambodian government, the campaign aims to reduce drug use and the related harm it causes. The campaign also includes arresting people who use drugs as part of its strategy.Using far less deadly tactics than in the Philippines, the crackdown was still rather aggressive in the kingdom.

Myanmar’s Child Labour Problem Refuses To Go Away

A report titled, “Global Childhood Report 2019” released by United Kingdom (UK)-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) Save the Children, found that Singapore took the lead in terms of providing a safe and fostering environment for children. Freeing Cambodia’s children

Cambodia may receive a lot of criticism aimed especially at its politics and human rights, but the Kingdom is apparently doing something right. Recent reports show that Cambodia has made leaps and bounds as far as protecting its children go. This is especially significant considering the fact that (relative to some other ASEAN countries) a large portion of its population are made up of young people.The fact that Cambodia has a problem with child labour is nothing new.

Of Singapore and Lao

Recently The ASEAN Post published two articles on Save the Children’s Global Childhood Report 2019. One talked about how Singapore, for the second year in a row, managed to grab the number one spot for providing a safe and nurturing environment for children. The other article was about how Lao not only performed the worst in the region on that front, but also performed badly worldwide.

Worst place in ASEAN for children

With the exception of Singapore, none of the ASEAN countries are doing so well in terms of providing a great place for their children to live in. Countries that are, at least, somewhat safe include Brunei, Malaysia, and Thailand.
